A person can certainly take a great picture with just about any piece of
equipment out there, and new digital technology has completely revolutionized the
photographic industry. With new choices in equipment coming literally by
the day, I chose to hang tightly with film as long as I could. I recently
traded in my 35mm film setup for a Nikon D3 and couldn't be happier.
While I still use film for my panoramic images, the new levels of capability
offered in the 35mm digital format are truly outstanding!
In my bag (Lowepro Photo Trekker), you'll find some combination of the following:
Nikon D800 and D3 camera bodies
Nikon 70-200/2.8 AF-S
Nikon 24-85/3.5-5.6 AF-S
Nikon 500/4 AF-S
Nikon 1.4x and
Gitzo 1349 tripod w/
Really Right Stuff ball-head
Fuji GX-617 w/
and lots of film
Even with the best equipment, there is no substitute for knowing and
understanding your subject. Some of my best images have been taken after
hours of observing rather than photographing. It is more a matter of being
patient and simply waiting for the right moment. People tend to debate
equipment choice beyond the point of relevance...no matter your camera, film
choice, or lighting, the best thing you can do is to just get out, enjoy the
outdoors. If you remember to take your camera along - capture the moments!
